The process of “looking for paintings” lets me see patterns just beneath my everyday experiences. Light creates rhythms and harmonies, both visual and poetic, which transform my view of the commonplace. Painting becomes a way to set down, amplify and play with these elements and a reminder of this alchemy.
These paintings are done with multiple layers of oil paint on linen mounted on boards. They are done over several weeks after studies from my own photos and sketches identify images that affect me. Oil paints allow me to work with the image in a sculptural way, and to continually explore the image as I work.
Sometimes seeing my own setting and story clearly can be hampered by veils of ego and familiarity. My trips to and paintings of Japan have given me a chance to transcend this momentarily and have given me moments of great delight.

Art to me represents the joy of living and experiencing the world around us. The eyes of an artist are continually seeing beauty and drama and mentally framing this vision on to a canvas.
Art is my passion. Painting leads me on a revealing journey to my soul. When I paint I am constantly attempting to convey my unique impressions of my environment, the world, and the passion my subject evokes in me. The possibilities seem to be endless and without boundaries, which in itself is profoundly exciting.
I find joy in being challenged to learn new media and experimenting with techniques to create and enhance my artistic abilities. While I have worked in watercolor in the past, I find myself falling in love with oil. There are so many possibilities, challenges and techniques to explore that I have devoted my current work to oil painting with a variety of subject matter.
Color is my first love. The vibrancy, passion and contrast of color excite me. The brilliance of color in painting renders a life and emotion that cannot be duplicated. I paint with passion and powerful feelings and color best expresses my ideas and joy.
This love affair with art began in the fourth grade, and has never subsided. My focus on art was diverted while raising my children and pursuing a career. It is finally my time to experience, explore and devote myself to my first love, art. The profound joy and satisfaction that art brings to my life could not be realized through any other pursuit.
I feel very blessed to have the love and burning desire to paint and pursue my art. Each day I am reminded of how fortunate I am to have this gift, and to be a member of the Providence Art Club. My fellow members generously support and enrich me, while providing an environment in which my art can flourish. The Club, and everyone that I come in contact with, has added an environment in which to meet new friends and colleagues and mutually share our ideas and enthusiasm for art.
