Ruth Clegg: Personal Scapes
Artist's Statement
Ruth Clegg has been part of the art world for thirty-three years. A 1977 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a degree in fine arts, Clegg concentrated in the area of printmaking, primarily lithography, and photography. For the past twenty-seven years she has explored the portrait photography world and has maintained a photography studio, Angell Fine Arts, Ltd., in East Greenwich. Through her work with the studio, Clegg has received numerous professional awards and degrees and has been published in three books representing the best of professional photography in the United States.
Clegg continues to explore not only photography but also printmaking, drawing and painting. She is now working on processing monoprints and monotypes at the Goddard Partridge Studio in Pawtucket.
As a member of the Providence Art Club, Clegg has had numerous shows over the past ten years. Additional shows have been at Miss Porter’s School, Pawtucket Arts Council, T.F. Green Airport and in the Angell Fine Arts Gallery.
A common theme that finds its way into Clegg’s work is the exploration of texture and patterns. Whether it is a photographic portrait, landscape, or a monotype there is a dialogue going on in the layers of each medium. The advancement of computers has allowed Clegg to continue to explore the combination of mediums such as photography and painting and bring them together on a single piece of paper.
