Suzanne Dickson Albert and Ann Daum: The Luminous Moment
Suzanne Dickson Albert
Artist's Statement
Suzanne Dickson Albert’s art celebrates the light, warmth and color following the American landscape tradition. Her landscapes primarily depict coastal regions of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine and the Carolinas.
She conveys timelessness in the landscape, a universal idea of that place. Her bold use of pastel in color and spontaneous mark making give the work its unique character that has awarded her numerous prizes in juried shows, including the Grumbacher Award.
She has exhibited extensively throughout Southeastern New England, including solo shows at the Newport Art Museum in Newport, the Dodge House and Wheeler galleries in Providence, the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Providence, the Attleboro Museum in Massachusetts, as well as New York City and Connecticut.

Artist's Statement
My color palette is pure and bright. At times, my paintings have a poster-like quality. I like to show the effect of light on objects and the model’s clothing and skin. The impressionists often used cadmium oranges to capture the lovely brilliance that I often use to make a strong contrast in values.
I strive to achieve some realism in my paintings and to tell a story, allowing the viewer to provide his or her own interpretation. The effect of my experiences as a psychiatric nurse can be seen in the figures I depict who are often alienated and alone.
My subject matter varies. I am enchanted watching people in all sorts of circumstances and environments.
I work in several modes. Some canvases and pastel drawings are initially developed on site and then completed in my studio. Other paintings are derived from digital prints I have taken. My recollections and impressions will often alter the painting as it evolves. Often the execution of the painting is a lengthy process as I may put it aside for several months and resurrect it after I have contemplated the direction I wish to take. Trips to museums and browsing through art books will often stimulate my creative juices. My sketchbooks contain drawings that will later appear in a print or painting.
